I just beat Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 for the first time today about a week after I got the game. This is only the second or third time I’ve played it this week. I am not good at fighting games and I never have been or will be. I don’t have the patience or memory to learn all specials for all characters or even a favorite team of 3. Yet despite all that I have stacked against me with a controller in hand (fight and arcade sticks are a different beast) I’m not bad at this game. This is a fighting game for everyone who has ever sucked and wanted to still have fun. This is a button mashers delight. That’s not to say that the skilled player still can’t smash you into the ground in seconds using their entire team in the proper way, but MvC3 gives the uneducated and under talented fans a (if you’ll excuse the pun) fighting chance. Now, I will not review the game.
Long story short; It’s awesome and if you don’t own it, you really must. No, this is about my perspective as an admittedly HORRIBLE player of the fighting genre. Yet, this game is manageable and easy enough to pick up. While watching two talented players can still be extremely daunting one can jump in knowing that they will get a fair shake. At one point just via mashing buttons really hard I was able to send out a sentinel squad, air juggle with Ryu, and smash my opponent into the ground while triggering X-Factor in air and finishing with a special sentinel beam. I had no idea what I was doing. Make no mistake this game is going to be best appreciated and loved by the fighting game elite, but was clearly built with the amateur button masher in mind.
